Dameia Chelsee Fong, age 66, of Tomball, Texas passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.
Our beautiful, always kind and considerate Dameia Chelsee Fong, 66, passed away peacefully at M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital on July 5, 2023. She was born in Hong Kong on November 3, 1956. The eldest child of five children, Dameia was preceded in death by her father, Karl C. Fong; her grandparents Ying Lai, Yee Poy Woon Fong, Thomas H. and Sue Yee. She is survived by her son, Matthew Jamison Hester; beloved mother, Lily Lai Shim; four siblings Fay Wong (Frank), Norma Mori (Tom), Raymond (Cynthia), and Amy; two nieces Melissa Villegas (Jorge), and Sara Saelee (Lou); grand-niece Olivia Villegas; grand-nephew Cole Saelee; uncle Thomas Yee and aunt Margie Yee.
In 1960, Dameia immigrated to the United States with her parents and sister, Fay, settling in Sacramento, California. She graduated from C. K. McClatchy High School in 1974 and Sacramento City College in 1977. Dameia worked at Weinstock’s Department store for several years as a Clinique consultant where she enjoyed assisting customers and the benefit discounts on makeup, shoes and clothing.
In 1978 she relocated to Houston to start her career as a flight attendant with Texas International Airlines (later Continental and now United). Dameia enjoyed working for the airlines, absolutely loved her job and was good at it because she just had a way with people. Sociable and easy to get along with, it was natural for her to establish many lasting friendships and bonds with her co-workers in the airline industry. She retired from the airline business in 2021 after 43 years.
Dameia was a loving and caring mother to Matthew Hester, her one and only adoring son with her ex-husband, Ron Hester.
Dameia was full of life and energy while at work and staying in touch with family and friends. She maintained many friendships from her childhood through adulthood. Some of her closest hometown Sacramento friends are Denise, Frances, Georgia, Melody, Suzanne, and Vicki. When she moved to Houston, she made even more great friends including Carolyn, whom she met at the airlines, became roommates and engaged in many entrepreneurial projects together; Dora, who also worked at Continental, got her into the Angels of Love jewelry business; Sue whose eldest son Jeffrey is Matthew’s age; Eda, her herbalist; Richard, Jeri, and Diana with whom Dameia bonded and became good friends when she first moved to Houston.
Dameia led an active life; she especially enjoyed learning and broadening her knowledge and skills through educational courses. Metaphysics was her most recent field of studies along with her long-standing fondness in snapping pictures and sharing with others.
Dameia was a caring, generous, and giving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She truly made a lasting impression on all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. We LOVE you Dameia!
